Before you start on your quest to lose weight fast, you need to know what weight lifting vs. cardio activities can do for you. While it is true that both weight lifting and cardio activities can help you to burn calories, the fact is, one is more efficient than the other.

If you are trying to lose weight fast, cardio activities such as running, brisk walking, climbing stairs etc. is the way to go! You will lose weight when your body burns more calories than you consume. Cardio activities which use your whole body can help you burn burn more calories than weight lifting that targets one or two muscle groups. Worst still, the rate that the calories are burnt reduces if the intensity of weight lifting is low.

Although you cannot rule out weight lifting altogether, cardio activities are more efficient when it comes to losing weight. This is indeed a good news as typically, we do more cardio activities in a day than weight lifting. Our daily activities like walking to work, climbing the stairs in the apartment etc. can help us to burn calories. But you might not be seeing a drastic result as those are not so intense cardio activities. Try to do more intense, long duration cardio activities to see better results.

On the other hand, weight lifting can increase your stamina which would help you to endure during your cardio activities. You need to include two to three sessions of weight lifting in your routine. But to burn calories and lose weight efficiently, focus on cardio activities!

Why Long Duration Aerobic Workouts Won’t Help You To Become Skinny?

In my quest to become skinny and lose 35lbs, I have tried long duration aerobic exercises. I have seen on infomercials that skinny models do long workouts and they are able to keep in shape. However, after weeks of repeating the routines, I was not losing weight at the rate I wanted to. In fact, I hardly lost any fat around my belly and thigh.

After much frustration and frantically seeking for a better way to become skinny, I finally found the answer! If you are performing long duration of aerobics workouts in order to get skinny, but can’t see the results that you wanted, stay with me as I want to share some powerful truths that I learnt.

Let me talk about the long duration, low intensity aerobic workout that you are doing or thinking of doing.

Although long duration aerobic exercise do help to burn fat, it sends signal to your body that there would be another workout session and it needs to store enough fat reserve to burn. This is definitely not a good thing that your body is doing! The endless long duration of aerobic exercise will get you nowhere as the process keeps repeating. You burn the fat and your body stores the fat again!

On top of that, long duration aerobics exercise can lead to decrease in muscle mass and potentially bring harm to the joints in your body. For example, running on a treadmill for hours can cause adverse impact to your knee joints due to the constant pounding. Things can be worse if you are slightly overweight as it brings more damage to your knee joints.

Another powerful truth is, when you are on the treadmill for hours, you are only working out your lower body. If your want to become skinny and slim and have a perfect looking figure, this would not help. In fact it may cause muscle imbalances and create potential injury.

While you can’t totally rule out exercise on treadmill, you need to know the right way to do it, or it may potentially bring more harm than good.
