The number one threat to your Weight Loss Plan is stress. Stress can also lead to rapid weight gain. The main reason is cortisol, a stress hormone that is released in our body.

Our body tends to react whenever we are under stress. It gets ready to fight back by releasing a burst of energy, shifts in metabolism and blood flow and a series of other reactions.

Being under stress for a long period of time can be harmful for the body as there is hormone imbalance in the body.

Stress and cortisol can cause weight gain due to the following reasons:-

High stress hormone can reduce the metabolism rate. It causes your body to burn fat at a slower rate and storing more fat causing weight gain although you eat the same amount of food that you have been always eating.

When we are under stress, our body tend to crave for more fatty, salty and sugary food. This is because our body sends a signal that it needs more energy and we need to eat food which contains high cabs, fat etc. This of course can lead to rapid weight gain.

When we are under stress for a long period, our blood sugar levels will be altered. It can lead to metabolic syndrome and cause a series of other problems such as heart attacks and diabetes.

High stress levels are linked to greater abdominal fat. As the metabolism decreases, fat is accumulated in the abdominal areas. Abdominal fat is known to pose greater health risk than fat stored in other areas of the body.

You need to take a break and do other activities to reduce the stress level immediately. Exercises would also help to reduce your stress level in the long run.

It is the main reason that most diet plans fail. You are doing the right things to lose weight but you do not see the results. You have tried different diet plans that work for others but apparently it is not working for you. “Where have I gone wrong?”, you are wondering..

Let me reveal to you the source of the problem, which is also known as the leading cause of deaths in the world.

It is called Stress!

Stress can cause poor eating habits and uncontrolled eating which will kill your diet plans. This is true regardless whether the source of your stress is from a major life changing event or just your daily work. To most people, food becomes the comfort for the tough time that they are going through, whether it is in their job, personal relationships or others. If you are doing the same, it is time to make a plan to get control over your life.

A hectic life would cause you not to have adequate time to plan your regular meals and anything quick would be good for you. This would lead to poor food choices like high calorie snacks, fast food etc. Hectic life will rob your body of adequate amount of rest that it requires thus draining the energy level.

Although you cannot control the events that cause the stress, you can certainly control your reactions to them. It is important to structure your eating habits, especially when you are under stress.

Here are some tips to resist stress from killing your diet plan.

Firstly, it is important to make sure that you are not an emotional eater. Emotional eaters take comfort in indulging in food every time they go through stress. It is just a temporary action to forget the issues that they are going through. Emotional eating can kill your diet plan and cause you to gain weight fast as you are feeding your body when it doesn’t actually need to be fed at that time.

Secondly, when you are under stress, buy some healthy convenient meals. When it comes to packaged goods, read the labels and follow the eating guidelines given. Eat adequately and don’t punish your body by overeating just because you are under stress.

I have to admit that i was an emotional eater before. Although it was a tough thing to do, i was determined to discipline myself and structure my eating habits whenever i was under stress. And it helped me in my quest to lose 35lbs in 10 Weeks!
